The Central Board of the Society of Friends in Germany (Quakers) has written to the Berlin Jewish Community expressing shame and grief because of the pogrom against the Jews in the Kurfuerstendamm on the Jewish New Year and the desecrations of Jewish sanctities. We feel the shame and the guilt, the letter says, because we have not done enough to remove the poison of hatred from the air in Germany, and we ask you to forgive us, and to be our friends.
