Outgoing Israeli Foreign Minister Ariel Sharon was appointed coordinator of Israeli efforts to bring some 3,000 Ethiopian Jews to Israel. At a special meeting of ministers, Israel also decided to send food and medical aid to the Jews in the Kwara region. Israel closed down its operations in Ethiopia last year.
