More than 1,000 Jews have enlisted for service with four Palestine units of the British armed forces, it was announced today.

The enlistments were recorded within 48 hours after issuance of a call for volunteers to serve with the units, one of which is to be entirely Jewish, one Arab and two mixed. Several hundred of the recruits were immediately assigned to active duty.

The Palestine Government announced today that, in accordance with a decree issued June 5, all police including specials henceforth will be employed for military purposes at the discretion of the General Officer Commanding, Lt.Gen. G.J. Giffard.

Jews throughout Palestine yesterday observed a day of fast and prayers for Britain’s victory.
