More than 1,000 Protestant ministers, bishops, and presidents of theological seminaries have pledged themselves to remove anti-Semitic references from religious teachings and textbooks, it was announced today by the Protestant, a nondenominational publication.
The work of the Textbook Commission to Eliminate Anti-Semitic Statements from Textbooks was endorsed at the same time by the 1,012 clergymen. The purposes of this commission, as outlined by Kenneth Leslie, editor of the Protestant, is to “speak a word of counsel to those responsible in any way for the injection of suggestive and provocative statements in books used for the teaching of democratic youth.”
