The Portuguese steamer Nyassa arrived here today bearing more than 200 Jewish refugees, most of whom are over sixty years old. Another group of 400 refugees from the Nyassa were landed in Brazil before the ship proceeded to Argentina.
The immigration officials here allowed 185 of the passengers to land immediately. Some 28 refugees, who have visas for Paraguay and Colombia, and transit visas allowing them to pass through Argentina, were detained aboard the ship. Immigration officials, however, assured the JTA correspondent that they will be permitted to proceed to their destinations within a week.
