Over 5,300 Jewish DP’s are attending 43 Ort training schools in the American zone of Germany under the supervision of more than 500 teachers and technical instructors, it was disclosed today at a meeting here of ORT directors from all parts of the American zons.
George Backer, president of the World ORT Federation, who was present, de##ared in a brief address that “out of tremendous sufferings which have befallen the wish people some comfort may be derived from the work of the ORT.” Dr. David ##vitch, vice-president of the World ORT Union, and the new director of the American zone, Louis Malinsky, also spoke.A report by the ORT director in Munich, Jacob Oleiski, emphasized the immig##tance of developing modern techniques of work and encouraging individual handiaftsmen. He pointed out that the extension of ORT training work so as to reach as proposed goal of 10,000 students is handicapped by shortages of material and ##chnical skills in Germany.
