Various lodges of the B’nai B’rith are engaged in spirited activities here. In this and nearby cities the organization members are at present celebrating the 90th anniversary of the founding of B’nai B’rith.
Eastern seaboard chapters of Aleph Zadek Aleph, junior order of B’nai B’rith, held their convention in Chester, about 300 delegates attending as representatives of Allentown, Harrisburg, Hazelton, Washington, Baltimore, Paterson, Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Wilmington, Newark, Montclair and Asbury Park chapters.
Featured with a banquet, the meeting listened to addresses by Mayor Ward of Chester, Aaron Tollin, international senior deputy of this region of the organization; Philip M. Klutznik, past executive of the A. Z. A.; Congressman Justin of Nebraska, and Joseph Herbach, of the Supreme Advisory Council and secretary of the grand district lodge of the B’nai B’rith.
At a reorganization meeting of the B’nai B’rith Council of Eastern Pennsylvania, held at Hazleton, the following officers were elected: president, Calvin Leichtman, Hazleton; first vice-president, Morris Black, Bethlehem; second vice-president, J. M. Oppenheim, Wilkes Barre; third vice-president, Joseph Garner, Harrisburg; fourth vice-president, Henry Frideman, Allentown; corresponding secretary, Alvan E. Baum, Hazleton; recording secretary, Louis Stambert, Allentown; treasurer, Abe Breit, Pottsville.
Trustees: Joseph Levine, Easton; William Hoffman, York; Ben Zable, Reading; Nathan Tuckerman, Pottsville; Harry Margolis, Bethlehem; A. S. Galland, Pottsville; Dr. Isador Rosenthal, Lancaster.
To commemorate the ninetieth anniversary of the founding of B’nai B’rith, the Allentown Lodge presented a pageant in the Jewish Community Center auditorium this week. The pageant, written by Elma Ehrlich Levinger, reenacted the founding of the order and gave a dramatic portrayal of the aims and progress of the Lodge since its inception. Six episodes were presented.
