As a part of the celebration of the West End Synagogue’s ninetieth anniversary, a pageant of Jewish post-Biblical history will be presented next Thursday evening at the Kaufman Auditorium, Ninety-second street and Lexington avenue. The pageant, “The Eternal People,” was written by Dr. Hyman Judah Schachtel, rabbi of the Temple.
The pageant begins in the days of the Babylonian captivity and depicts the important events in the history of the Jews to the present day. The concluding section is dedicated to the anniversary of the Temple with Harry N. Wessel, president of the temple; Mrs. M. Strauss, of the mothers association; Mrs. Maurice Cohn, of the sisterhood, Martin Hirschfield, of the young folk’s league; Jerome Ziman, of the Mendes Society; Fred Marks Jr., of the Philo Junior Society; James S. Lyons, Moses Koch Jr., and Vera Katz, participating.
Martin I. Rosenthal and James S. Lyons are directing the pageant. Mrs. H. B. Ross is consulting director, and Miss Daisy Blau is dance director.
The pageant committee consists of Louis X. Garfunkel, chairman; Adele Bildersee, Charles Hammerslough, James S. Lyons, Nellie Reichert, Morton I. Rosenthal and Dr. Nathan Stern.
