Palestine Arab merchants have filed a memorandum with the Arab League in Cairo asking that the boycott of “Zionist goods” be called off or compensation paid to Arab merchants to defray “losses resulting from the ban,” it was reported here today.
The memorandum, which is signed by prominent Palestine Arab merchants, complains that the boycott of Jewish-made goods is a “double-edged sword” and that they are losing considerable trade and asks the league to “reconsider” the ban. They point out that the boyectt, which began Jan. 1, 1946, has forced a number of Arab mercantile establishments to the edge of bankruptcy.
Fifteen Jewish hikers who were arrested by a Syrian border patrol near the Palestine-Syrian frontier more than a week ago were released today after they paid a collective fine of 1,000 Syrian pounds for crossing the border illegally.
