Two banks in Cairo yesterday began accepting applications from Palestine Arab refugees for the release of bank accounts frozen in Israel which Israel has agreed to release, it was reported here today in a dispatch from the Egyptian capital.
In a unilateral action announced some months ago, Israel agreed to release frozen accounts at the rate of 50 pounds sterling a month on each account. Claims will be paid by a number of British banks, including Barclays and the Ottoman Bank, acting as agents of the Israel Government, on a basis of one pound sterling for each blocked Israeli pound.
