An Arab League plan to send to the United Nations General Assembly a unified “Palestine Arab delegation” headed by former Saudi Arabian delegate Ahmed Shukairy has evoked the bitter opposition of the former Mufti of Jerusalem, it was reported here today.
The former Mufti, a collaborator with the Hitler regime during the war, who heads the “Arab Higher Committee:” announced in Beirut he opposed Shukairy’s appointment to speak on behalf of the “Palestine Arabs.”
The ex-Mufti added that the “Arab Higher Committee” would appoint its own delegation which would proceed to the United Nations. The ex-Mufti declared in a cable to the Arab League, that Shukairy’s appointment was “a gross violation” of previous League decisions regarding Palestine.
