A military court today sentenced two Hebrew University chemistry students to four-year prison terms for possession of explosives. The students are Menachem Levi, 21, and Joshua Buchwald, 24. A third student, Bernard Teitler, who had been arrested at the same time, was sentenced two weeks ago to seven years imprisonment on a similar charge.
Yielding to a plea by Chief Rabbi Isaac Herzog, 80 Jews interned at the Sarafend concentration camp today called off their six-days-old hunger strike, following long negotiations between Jewish circles and the authorities. Fifty relatives of the Sarafend prisoners had launched a sympathy hunger strike in the Great Synagogue at Tel Aviv over the week-end. The strike was precipitated by the Government’s action in extending for another six months the expired one-year term of a Jerusalem Revisionist.
Prior to ending of the strike, forcible feeding had been resorted to, Last night Revisionist youths compelled the closing of cafes in Tel Aviv, breaking the windows of those which refused.
All traffic on the Jerusalem-Jericho Road was suspended tonight for a week following demolition of a bridge by Arab terrorists.
