Limitation of Palestine imports from any one country to three times the value of goods exported from Palestine was approved here in principle today at a meeting of the Committee on Agricultural Economy and Marketing.
Establishment of a clearing house for the control of this ratio of imports and exports was proposed by Heinrich Cohen. The committee voted to recommend this measure to the Palestine government.
The group also proposed to the government that it establish a citrus shipping board to regulate the export of Palestine’s chief product.
Government circles expressed doubt as to the legality of a clearing house, holding it might be viewed as conflicting with Article 18 of the Palestine Mandate, which provides for an “open door” policy in regard to trade.
