A delay in the realization of the $22,500,000 loan to the Palestine government, which was endorsed by the House of Commons and the House of Lords, has come about, according to information published today in the Hebrew daily, “Ha-Aretz” of Tel Aviv.
The newspaper learns that the realization of the loan is hindered due to the attitude of the British government which insists that the payment of the interest on the loan, amounting to £200,000 annually, be secured through the inclusion of this item in the annual budget of the Palestine government. The treasury of the Palestine government, however, thought this impossible due to the marked decrease in the revenue and therefore suggested the postponement of the loan.
It was stated that Sir John Shuckburgh, Assistant Secretary of the Colonial Office, who was on a visit here recently negotiated with the Palestine government concerning this matter and that the decision was reserved until his return to London.
