The Palestine Government has contacted several leading Jews abroad and asked them to record statements appealing to the Jews in Palestine and in their respective countries to accept the Bevin statement on Palestine, it was learned here today. The recordings will be rebroadcast over the Palestine radio.
It was also established today that the British embassy in Cairo encouraged the representative of Transjordan to add his signature to the decision of the Arab league to boycott Jewish-made goods from Palestine. The Transjordan representative was at first reluctant to sign the boycott declaration.
The Palestine press reports that Jewish civil servants who participated in the general strike called by the Jews in Palestine on Nov. 14, have received a severe earning from the Government that they will be dismissed if they strike again. In the meantime, a day’s pay was deducted from their salery. The Hebrew paper Davar asks why Arab civil servants were not punished when they participated in political strikes.
A military court in Haifa today sentenced a Jewish youth, Eliezer Hamo, to twelve months imprisonment on the charge that four bullets were found on him. At the same time, two Arabs charged with the possession of revolvers and ammunition were acquitted “because of lack of sufficient evidence.”
