The Government of Palestine is a despotic government, writes the “Meraatel Sherk” to-day in an article demanding that the population of Palestine should be given the right to participate in the administration of the country.
The Government makes laws without consulting the people, it writes; it appoints the officials it wishes to favor, not those who are suited to serve the nation; it collects taxes without caring for the needs of the people, it rules the country as it likes without thinking of the interests of the nation, it issues loans in the name of the country and spends the money and plays with the people as with a ball. The people of the country have a right to a place in the Government offices. The Administration must be of and for the people. The population must co-operate in the legislature, must have a voice in the appointment and dismissal of officials, it must have a say in regard to the system of taxation. Instead of being strangers, the nation and the Government should work together for the interests of the country.
