The Palestine Government is not in a position to control inflation in the country, it was reported in the House of Commons today by colonial Secretary Oliver Stanley.
“The inflationary tendencies in Palestine,” the Colonial Secretary said, “are largely due to circumstances outside of the control of the Palestine Government.” He added that the index in Palestine has nevertheless decreased from 248 in June to 230 in December of last year. The cost of living in Palestine compares favorably with that of the neighboring countries, he stated.
Replying to a query on the November disturbances in the Ramath Hakovesh settlement during which a Jewish settler was killed, the Colonial Secretary described in detail the circumstances which led to these disturbances when the settlement was raided in search for hidden arms. Only one of the twelve policemen who participated in the raid was wounded, he said.
