Following the announcement that the Palestine government would name the mayor and vice-mayor of Tel Aviv, instead of permitting their election by popular vote, the government has announced as its appointments Meyer Dizengoff as Mayor and Mr. Rokah as vice-mayor, the two executive who were elected to these posts by the town council in December.
The Town Council of Tel Aviv recently strongly protested against the government’s ordinance robbing it of its autonomous character. The fact that the government has appointed the very same persons elected by the Town Council will not change the situation in principle, it was declared, as the Council will insist on its autonomous right to elect its own officers.
