The Palestine Government plans to admit about 1,000 Jewish deportees from Cyprus under the November-December and December-January quotas of 1,500 each, it was announced today.
Under the Nov. 15-Dec. 14 quota 300 Jews will be returned here from Cyprus, 843 will be released from the Athlit clearance camp, with the remainder of the certificates going to visaless immigrants who are enrolled in the British or Allied forces here and to relatives in Europe of Palestine residents.
The Dec. 15-Jan. 14 quota will allot half of the 1,500 certificates to the Cyprus deportees and the rest to various other categories. The announcement said that the persons to be brought here from Cyprus will be selected in cooperation with the Jewish Agency.
Meanwhile, leading Jewish institutions are understood to be continuing discussions concerning extension of non-cooperation with the government if the present immigration policy is not altered. They are also believed to be mapping plans to make the Jewish community a self-sufficient economic unit which would be able to withstand pressure from the British Government or any other source.
