Decision Announced Following Representations by Vaad Leumi (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)
The ordinance issued by the Palestine government, according to which the municipalities are to be granted the authority over the educational systems in the towns and villages, with the right of taxation for this purpose, will be amended in accordance with the presentations of the leaders of Palestine Jewry.
This attitude of the Palestine government became known after a delegation representing the Vaad Leumi, National Council of Palestine Jews, called on Col. Robert S. Symes, Civil Secretary of the government, voicing the fears of Palestine Jewry that if this ordinance is enforced in its present form it might jeopardize the autonomous rights of the Hebrew educational system in the country.
The ordinance will not be put into effect in the near future. The government is willing to amend it in accordance with the presentations made, the Secretary assured the delegation.
