The Palestine government announced today that it will requisition “at a fair price” the entire grain harvest, leaving growers enough for themselves and their families and for seed Broadcasting to all Palestine Sir Harold MacMichael, the High Commissioner, declared that this action has been decided upon to ensure an equitable distribution of grain to all the populace.
“Although these are drastic measures,” Sir Harold said, “the times call for such. I believe the government will have general support since these measures are for the population’s own protection. The only alternative would be victimization of some people and a great shortage of food and other essentials.” Lauding the manner in which Palestine’s farmers have greatly increased agricultural production to meet war needs, Sir Harold urged intensified efforts in order to make the country as self-sufficient as possible.
