Jewish industrial progress in Palestine is emphasized in a report which Edward J. Phelan, the acting director of the International Labor Office, an institution affiliated with the League of Nations, submitted today to the Conference of the International Labor Organization now taking place here, the first time it has been held in America.
At the same time it was announced today that a representative of Palestine’s organized labor has been invited to attend the worker’s section of the Conference, and that Mr. I. Mereminsky, Histadurth leader now in America, will be the representative.
In his report to the conference in which delegates of governments and labor groups from 33 countries are participating, the acting director of the ILO says that “in Palestine, the development of industries by Jewish enterprise has reached the point at which industrial output exceeds agricultural output; prospecting for minerals is being actively carried on; new factories for tin, starch, and glucose have been started; new commercial uses have been found for the part of the citrus crops which cannot be marketed.”
