Palestine Jewry was plunged into mourning today over the death in London last night of Dr. Nahum Sokolow.
Zionist leaders paid tribute to his many-sided genius at a memorial meeting held this afternoon at the Jewish Agency for Palestine. Among the speakers were Menachem M. Ussishkin, president of the Jewish National Fund, and David Ben-Gurion, chairman of the agency’s Palestine Executive. Isaac Gruenbaum, of the agency executive, was scheduled to broadcast a tribute in the evening.
All Jewish national institutions were closed and the Zionist flag flew at half-staff. Every Jewish newspaper featured the account of Dr. Sokolow’s death on the front page, above the story of the Jerusalem curfew.
