The recently promulgated ordinance of the Palestine government, in which the Municipal and Local Councils are proclaimed as the local education authorities and entitled to impose an education tax on the population is being opposed by Palestine Jewry.

The fear was expressed that this ordinance may do away with the autonomy of the Jewish schools. In memoranda submitted to the Government by the Zionist Executive, the Agudath Israel the Yeshivas and other educational agencies, the demand is voiced that the government amend the education ordinance so that it preserves the autonomy of the Jewish schools.
