Palestine’s Chief Rabbinate today ordered prayers said for Mayor Meier Dizengoff, 75-year-old chief executive of this city, who is dangerously ill at his home of pneumonia aggravated by a heart ailment.
Thousands of citizens filled the streets neighboring the Mayor’s home as he lay near death. So critical is the aged Mayor’s condition that doctors refused to permit High Commissioner Sir Arthur Wauchope to see him. Sir Arthur, hearing of Mr. Dizengoff’s condition, had stopped off to visit him while on a tour of the Sharon Plain in connection with the current disorders.
After having spent a slightly easier night, Mr. Dizengoff’s condition again took a turn for the worse.
