Special mention of the German Jews, in accordance with the Archbishop of Canterbury’s request, was included in today’s prayers for the afflicted at St. George’s Cathedral here.

The Chief Rabbinate proclaimed special prayers tomorrow, to be accompanied by blowing of the shofar (ram’s horn), for the German Jews, asking rabbinates the world over to follow suit. Chief Rabbi Isaac Herzog appealed to the leaders of civilized mankind “in the name of God and common humanity” to protest Germany’s “appalling mass retaliation” for the murder in Paris of a German Embassy official.

Opening its third year, the Palestine Symphony Orchestra last night dropped from its program Wagner’s “Die Meistersinger” as a protest against the pogroms.
