Three Jewish delegates from Palestine are attending the International Congress of Soil Science, in session here. They are Dr. Adolf Reifenberg of the faculty of the Institute of Bio-Chemistry of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, designated by the Palestine Government to represent the University: Dr. Felix Menchikovsky, representing the Institute of Agriculture and Experiment Station of the Zionist Organization of Tel-Aviv; and Mr. Meir Winnik, representing the Mikveh Israel Agricultural School and Experiment Station and the Organization of Agronomists of Palestine.
All three Palestine delegates are scheduled to read papers at the Congress, Col. E. S. Sawyer, director of agriculture of the Palestine Government, is expected to arrive before adjournment of the Congress.
Dr. Reifenberg in speaking at the opening of the Conference, said: “The Hebrew University at Jerusalem has requested me to give you its best greetings. We, who are working on the oldest soil in the world, are glad of this possibility to learn the scientifie methods applied to the newest soil of the world. We wish to express our thanks for your kind invitation. May I greet you with the old Hebrew word ‘L’hazlacha.”
The president of the Congress, Dr. Jacob G. Lipman, of the Experiment Station at New Brunswick, N. J., was recently named a member of the Joint Commission to Palestine. A number of other Jewish delegates are attending the Congress, at which practically every Government in the world is represented.
