It will take a century before the scientific and cultural losses suffered by the Jewish people in Hitler’s Europe can be replaced, Dr. Chaim Weizmann declared here today at a ceremony during which the first concrete was poured for the buildings which will house the Weizmann Institute of Science.
Dr. Weizmann added that the scientific institutions being set up in Palestine will rival in importance any similar institutions in America or Britain. Meyer Weisgal, executive vice-chairman of the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute, who also spoke, reviewed the history of the institution, which he called the “continuation of Weizmann’s life’s theory and practice.”
