Jacob Gussman, a young Jewish pioneer, was arrested by the police, a few days ago, in connection with the murder of Israel DeHaan, the slain leader of orthodox Jewry in Palestine.
His arrest was made on the testimony of a woman neighbor, named Pinkowitz, who stated the Gussman and her husband had committed the murder. After Gussman’s arrest, however, it was revealed that the woman was mentally unbalanced.
She became remorseful for what she had done in causing the arrest of Gussman, whom she now declares to be innocent, and asked the police to imprison her and release him. When her request was refused, she attempted to commit suicide. The woman also stated that she was compelled to make her accusation by a certain man, who threatened her with death unless she did so.
