Emir Ali, eldest son of King Hussein, has concluded a truce with the Wahabis. According to the terms of the Truce, Ali, who was today elected King of Hedjaz, promises to abandon his claim to the caliphate and agrees to pay a yearly subsidy to the conquering power.
Ali, who is forty two, is a practical politician, and concluded the truce with despatch. According to the report, he is on good terms with Ibn Saud, victorious leader of the Wahabis, whom he will meet in Mecca on Friday.
It is reported that opposition against the dynasty now in power is noticeable.
Emir Ali is recalling the delegation of five members sent by King Hussein to Moscow to ask for help in his fight against the Wahabis.
Emir Ali will sign the Anglo-Hedjaz Treaty as proposed by the British Government, is the opinion expressed in Arab circles here. King Hussein had refused to attach his signature to this treaty on account of the clause recognizing the British Mandate of Palestine, for the realization of the Jewish National Homeland.
