Palestinian attackers killed two Israeli soldiers and abducted another during a pre-dawn raid across the Gaza Strip border. A combined force of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Popular Resistance Committees gunmen tunneled under the border fence in the southern Gaza Strip on Sunday, firing on an Israeli military position near Kibbutz Kerem Shalom. In addition to the deaths of Lt. Hanan Barak, 21, from Arad, and St. Sgt. Pavel Slutsker, 20, from Dimona., four others were wounded. Another soldier, Cpl. Gilad Shalit, was abducted and taken back to Gaza, prompting an Israeli incursion into Palestinian Authority-controlled territory. Two Palestinians were killed, the army said, revising earlier reports of four dead. Shalit, still in Palestinian hands, was said to be wounded but in stable condition.
