Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat attempted to appease lawmakers angered by alleged corruption and mismanagement in the Palestinian Authority. During a speech before the Palestinian legislative council, Arafat reiterated his willingness to clean up his government, but some legislators said they had heard the same promises before. Arafat also attempted to place the lion’s share of the blame for the failing Palestinian economy on Israel.
