Palestinian officials applauded remarks by U.S. Middle East peace envoy Dennis Ross describing Jewish settlement activity as “very destructive to the pursuit of peace.” After Ross made the comment last Friday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s spokesman, David Bar-Illan, reiterated that Israel would continue to support settlement expansion in the West Bank and Gaza Strip to accommodate the natural growth of Israelis living there.
