Palestinians in the West Bank rioted in response to the Israeli-Hamas fighting in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli police clashed with hundreds of violent demonstrators in east Jerusalem, Hebron and other West Bank areas Sunday. Dozens of Palestinians were reported to have been injured.
The confrontations came as Israel pressed an offensive against Hamas in Gaza. The West Bank, which is under the sway of the Islamist faction’s secular rival Fatah, had previously been mostly quiet.
In neighboring Lebanon, pro-Palestinian protesters were reported to have thrown rocks against Israeli border positions, but there was no word of serious casualties.
