Ely E. Pamer, who was appointed American Consut General in Jerusalem on Noverber 7, 1933, will sail for hispost in Palestine on February 20, the Jewish Daily Bulletin learns. Mr. Palmer will succeed Consul General Paul Knabenshue.
The new appionted to the Jerusalem post was born in Providence. R. I., in 1887. He was educated at Brown University, the Sorhonne and George Washington University. He was officially appionted to the State Department in December, 1910, Since then he has served in consular posts in Mexico, France, Spain and Rumania. In August, 1929, he was appointed American Consul General at Vancouver, British Columbia, a post he held until he received his appointment to Jerusalem.
Mr. Palmer, a man of rare personal charm, has been appointed t the highest American diplomatic post in Palestine, since the American government has no minister there. In view of the large American colony in Palestine, both Jews and non-Jews, and of the large financial interests of Americans in the Holy Land, the post Mr. Palmer will occupy is of geat importance.
