Condemning anti-Semitism and racialism as the enemies of democracy, a conference of democratic groups from all over the country unanimously adopted an eight-point program for a Pan-American campaign to combat them. Participating in the conference were representatives of virtually all the political parties in Uruguay.
The program was proposed by Prof. Alvaro Guillot Munoz, secretary of the Argentine Committee Against Racialism and Anti-Semitism. It provided for a campaign against anti-democratic measures in certain South American countries; organization in all American nations of committees to combat anti-Semitism; formation of a central agency to disseminate information on the racialism campaign, and setting of a world “day for solidarity of the human races.”
At the same time, the Interior Ministry struck a blow against spread of hate propaganda with a decree prohibiting radio stations from broadcasting any material inciting against peoples, religions, races or nationalities.
