The first Pan-American OSE Conference opened here today, attended by delegations from the United States and Jewish communities in Latin American countries. It will discuss medical and health requirements of the Jewish population in various countries, problems of Jewish child care, dissemination of medical knowledge among Jews in Central and South America, and other problems concerning Jewish health. A number of prominent physicians will address the five-day parley.
In a statement issued here by Abel Shaban, chairman of the World Union of OSE who arrived here from Johannesburg to preside at the gathering, it was emphasized that “the purposes of the conference are to obtain first-hand information on the existing health conditions of the Jewish populations, their needs and requirements in the field of health, child-care and medical education in the various Latin-American countries, and also to formulate a program of OSE health activities in these countries in conformity with local needs and in cooperation with the Jewish communities and existing medical institutions and organizations there.”
