The possibility of the resignation of Monsignor Louis Barlassina, Papal Legate in Jerusalem, is admitted by the Italian press here. An American news agency recently reported that the British Colonial Office had made a formal request to the Cardinal for Foreign Affairs of the Vatican asking that he be retired from his post because of his alleged activities in hampering a rapprochement between Jews and Arabs in Palestine.

Although agreeing that Monsignor Barlassina’s recall is possible the Italian papers deny that the request, if one was made, of the British Colonial Office has anything to do with it. In the meantime the Catholic newspapers utilize the news as an opportunity for attacking the Zionists, accusing them of using their influence in British government circles.
