The Palestine government intends to postpone indefinitely the organization of a legislative council for the Holy Land in view of changed political conditions in the country, newspapers here reported today.
Bearing all the earmarks of being officially inspired, the reports stated that the Colonial Office had ordered indefinite postponement of the plan for a legislative council owing to Palestine Arab opposition to the exclusion of immigration and land sale questions from the competence of the body.
Unbending Jewish opposition to the legislative council and the defeat of the pro-British mayor of Jerusalem, Rageb Bey Nashashibi which indicated a new orientation in Arab policy, were also said to have been important factors in the decision.
