The first 200 Jewish refugees from the Saar arrived today at Foix, French border city, and were permitted to proceed further into France. Thirty Jewish refugees from the Saar also reached Forbach, on the French frontier, today where they were given permission by authorities to remain on French territory.
Jewish organizations in France mobilized today to receive as many Jewish refugees from the Saar as is possible. Preparations were made to accommodate the refugees with traveling facilities and financial assistance.
PREFERENCE ASKED
A special memorandum was addressed today by Jewish organizations in Paris to all members of the French Parliament and Senate, asking that preferential treatment be given Jewish immigrants from the Saar, in view of the specific conditions which Jews there will face under the Nazi regime. The memorandum asks that permanent settlement in France be permitted the refugees and that they also be allowed to seek employment.
