The executive committee of the Austrian Parliament has approved a measure providing for the payment of indemnification to persons imprisoned by the Nazis at the rate of 431 schillings (approximately $16) for each month of imprisonment. The only opposition to the measure came from the 16 deputies representing the neo-Nazi Independent Voters League.
Eligible for indemnification is any one imprisoned between March 6, 1933 and May 9, 1945 on account of their politics, national origin, race or religion. Total compensation must be paid by Sept. 1, 1956 and may be spread out in installments of approximately $100 a month or more, depending on the total due. Welfare cases may claim and receive advances on their approved claims.
Another measure was approved providing for payment by Sept. 1, 1956 of approved claims for indemnification of civil servants ousted from their positions by the Nazis. An installment system of payment on these claims was also approved.
