Development of a program aimed at placing Jewish social workers who have retired from full-time professional posts in short-term or part-time professional positions in Jewish social welfare agencies has been approved by the National Conference of Jewish Communal Service.
Miss Miriam R. Ephrain, New York, who will be retiring next June as director of program services of the National Jewish Welfare Board, was named chairman of a Committee on Retired Professional Personnel by Bertram H. Gold, Los Angeles, Conference president. The Committee is composed of retirees and of social workers employed in a wide variety of national and local Jewish social welfare agencies.
A four-point program has been formulated by the Committee. The first objective of the Committee will be to determine how to match retired professional personnel with existing short-term or part-time professional vacancies. A roster of retired personnel is to be developed. The Committee will also examine how to utilize retirees in volunteer capacities in Jewish social welfare agencies.
Other objectives of the Committee are to develop ways of utilizing the rich back ground and experience, of retired Jewish social workers in the National Conference of Jewish Communal Services; to harness the skills and knowledge of retirees in social work educational settings, both for learning and teaching; and to examine how the Conference may contribute toward better interpretation to Jewish social welfare agencies of flexibility in retiring professional personnel.
