Upon request of the Army and Navy Committee of the Jewish Welfare Board, of which Dr. Cyrus Adler is chairman, the United States War and Navy Departments, the United States Coast Guard, and the United States Veterans Bureau have granted furloughs to men of the Jewish faith to enable them to observe Passover.

The Secretary of War has issued an order permitting soldiers of the Jewish faith to be at home or the places where Seder celebrations are conducted from noon, April 11, until noon, April 15. The order adds: “Matzoth (unleavened bread) and Haggadahs (prayer books for the Seder service) will be distributed by the Jewish Welfare Board. Commanding officers and chaplains will lend assistance to and cooperate with representatives of the Board in such distribution.”

Similar instructions have been issued by the Bureau of Navigation of the United States Navy Department and the United States Coast Guard has also issued instructions to the same effect with reference to Jewish men in the service. The United States Veterans Bureau will issue passes permitting patients to be at their homes, when practicable, or at places where services are held.
