Housing Minister Gideon Patt is urging more Jews to settle in Jerusalem. Speaking at a meeting of the capital’s Economic Coordinating Council Sunday, Pott said he would do his utmost to achieve that objective. “I intend to go out and find private investors ready to put up office buildings and shopping centers throughout the capital,” he said.
Patt said that while increasing the Jewish population of Jerusalem the infrastructure of the city should be extended beyond the present confines. He promised to assist investors in getting through the red tape. He also said that present domestic building standards may be lowered in order to allow for lower housing prices in the city. The price of apartments in Jerusalem reached an all-time national record last year. Patt said that this year the government will complete some 13,500 apartments. Of these, some 6,200 flats will be built in Jerusalem and 1100 will be rental units.
