Paul Sandor, Hungarian Jewish Leader and Merchant, Arrives Today

Paul Sandor, Jewish deputy in the Hungarian parliament, will arrive in New York today on the steamer Resolute, which is returning from a world cruise. Deputy Sandor is accompanied by Mrs. Sandor.

A reception committee, headed by Anton Kaufman, publisher of the Newark “Jewish Chronicle”, will tender a banquet to Deputy Sandor on Thursday evening at the Manhattan Square Hotel, Broadway and 73rd Street.

On the committee are Morris Engelman, Charles Eisler of Newark, Judge Gustave Hartman, Judge William Blau, Morris Zukor, former president of the Civil Service Commission of New York; Frank Bokor, B. A. Ungar, Samuel S. Koenig and Albert Hershcovitz.

Deputy and Mrs. Sandor will also be the guests of the Hungarian congregation, Ohab Zedek, New York, on Saturday.

Mr. Sandor, who is president of the National Merchants’ Association of Hungary, will be the guest of the Chamber of Commerce at a luncheon on Saturday.

Mr. Sandor, who is a prominent Hungarian merchant, is also known for the many duels he has fought with his political enemies. A staunch champion of the rights of Hungarian Jews he challenged at one time Count Klebelsberg, Minister of Education, to a duel.

Mr. Sandor, who heads the group of non-Zionists in Hungary, published in the Hungarian press, cable advices say, the impressions of his world cruise on the Resolute. He met Felix M. Warburg who was also a passenger on the Resolute’s cruise until he disembarked for his trips to Palestine and Russia.

The topic of Zionism and Palestine was discussed and cable advices state Mr. Sander quoted Mr. Warburg as stating that the idea of a Jewish state in Palestine is an abandoned dream.
