The Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A., commending the Peace Corps for its ruling against religious bias in assigning Peace Corps members to any countries in the world, contrasted that stand here today with “the refusal on the part of other Federal agencies” to rule out bias “in aiding nations that practice discrimination.”
Applauding the policy against bias announced by R. Sargent Shriver, Jr., director of the Peace Corps, who has announced that his agency will not aid nations that impose racial or religious bens against Peace Corps personnel, I. L. Feuer, commander of the JWV, stated: “Mr. Shriver’s refusal to accede to blackmail by foreign governments, many of whom are accepting aid from this country, should be the forerunner of along-awaited policy by our Government to assure protection for American citizens abroad regardless of religion or race.”
