Checks totaling more that $1,000,000 were presented to the United Jewish Appeal at a conference this week-end of more than 300 leaders of Jewish communities in Eastern Pennsylvania, held at Allentown, Pa., it was reported today by UJA headquarters here.
In Portland, a conference of Maine Jewish leaders presented checks totaling more than $250,000 to the UJA. The conference was addressed by Rabbi Joseph Shubow of Boston and Moses Beckelman, European director of the Joint Distribution Committee.
