Governor John S. Fine of Pennsylvania said today on arrival from Israel and Europe following a visit to survey programs supported through the United Jewish Appeal that “relations between Israel and the United States are based on ideals held in common and are too deep-rooted to be strained by temporary tensions.”
Gov. Fine headed a five-man mission of Pennsylvania United Jewish Appeal leaders. Members of the Governor’s mission included Harry Sylk, 1954 campaign chairman of the Philadelphia Allied Jewish Appeal; Charles Weissman of Wilkes Barre, and William Sylk and Lawrence G. Horowitz, Philadelphia civic and welfare leaders.
The Governor, whose itinerary included visits to Israel, Italy, France, England and Ireland, said that his mission for the UJA filled him “with inspiration and left an indelible impression” on his mind.
