The work of Jewish welfare agencies in educational and humanitarian movements was featured in discussions held at the 24th annual convention of the Pennsylvania Federation of Young Men’s and Young Women’s Hebrew Associations and Jewish Community Centers, which is engaged in welfare work in the state, here in the Jewish Community Center.
Support for the Recovery Administration was urged by speakers who included officers of the Y. M. H. A. and Y. W. H. A.; Dr. Ludwig Bernstein, executive director of the Federation and professor at the University of Pittsburgh; Carter Taylor, executive director of the Harrisburg Welfare Federation; Dr. Philip R. Goldstein, of the Jewish Welfare Board of New York City; Samuel Handler, attorney and Moritz M. Gottlieb, of Allentown, president of the State Federation.
About 3,000 new members were enrolled in the organization, whose territorial range covers Pennsylvania, Baltimore and the District of Columbia. The Jewish Community Center of Baltimore became affiliated with the main Pennsylvania body. Moritz M. Gottlieb was reelected president of the Federation.
