The percentage of Canadian Jews engaged in trade has declined from 38 percent thirty years ago to 32, and the proportion in manufacturing industries has declined from 30 to 28 percent, according to a Canadian Jewish Congress study made public here today.
On the other hand the percentage in clerical occupations has risen from 9 to 13 percent, and the professions has risen from 4 to 9 percent. Jews constitute 9 percent of all Canadians engaged in trade, but are not more numerous in the professions than their proportion in the total population. Of the professionals the largest numbers are (in that order) doctors, teachers, lawyers, engineers and dentists.
